Its origins date back to 1928 where it was developed in several laboratories, but it was introduced to the market in 1933 by Otto Rohm, the founder of the plastic company Rohm and Haas.
Rohm was attempting to create a laminate between two glass plates in order to increase glass strength, but when conducting this process he discovered he had developed a completely new glass-like material.
Technically it is known as "Methyl methacrylate" (PMMA) and over the years, new applications have been developed to cover a wide range of areas.
